Fantasy Literature 3

Title: Fablehaven: Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary
Author: Brandon Mull
Illustrator: Brandon Dorman
Publisher: Aladdin Paperbacks
Copyright: 2009
Grade Level: 5th=8th

This is the fourth book in the Fablehaven series, and this book opens to reveal that the Society of the Evening Star has indeed captured two of the talisman that will open the demon prison of Zzyzz. More magical preserves, homes for all the magical and mythical creatures found in literature, are still under attack; in order to save the preserves, Kendra and Seth, the protagonists, must use the contents of a secret journal to find the other talismans. Kendra and Seth join the Knights of Dawn and journey into the dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost to find an important talisman. Will they reach it in time, or will the Society of the Evening Star grow more powerful?

Mull's writing has improved greatly since the release of the first book in this five part series.  This book, in particular, is very well done.  The series has matured as it's audience has matured.

This is a great series for reluctant readers, especially boys.  There is a lot of action and witty humor.  The illustrations are wonderful.  I began reading this series because I was so drawn to the colorful illustrations of the fairies on the cover.
